  • Sofia El Boury

    Professional Development Chair

    Head of Investor Relations, FGB

    Sofia El Boury joined FGB as Head of Investor Relations in July 2013. She enjoys 8 years of experience in sell-side equity research covering Diversified Financials, both in Morocco and in the UAE where she was Head of Banking & Financials at Dubai-based SHUAA Capital for 4 years. 

    Prior to her current position, Sofia served as Business Development Manager at the Moroccan Financial Board. In her role, she was responsible for the promotion of Casablanca Finance City (CFC), a government initiative aimed at positioning Casablanca as a financial center and gateway to North, West and Central Africa.

    Sofia holds a post-graduate degree in Management Sciences and a Master’s degree in International Business from Paris Dauphine University.

  • Alex MacDonald-Vitale

    Chairman

    Institutional Equities, HSBC Middle East

    Alex MacDonald-Vitale became Chairman of the Middle East Investor Relations Association in December 2015. Over the past five years he has fostered extensive support for MEIRA including HSBC's strategic partnership, while maintaining an active role with the Association and leading Regulatory Committee developments with local exchanges and government representatives. Notably, this led to the announcement in 2014 and launch in January 2016 of a new UAE law requiring locally listed companies to set up IR capabilities.

    Based in Dubai since 2010, Alex headed the first regional IR and strategic advisory role in the MENA Region for HSBC Group, overseeing equity and debt as well as ratings coverage. Prior to this Alex established and developed the first bank investor relations function in Saudi Arabia for SABB, where he had joined HSBC.

    Previously, Alex worked for ten years at the UK Foreign Office, where following a number of postings across the Middle East and Africa, he specialized as an Arabist, making this his fourth language.

    Pursuing a passion for international public relations and finance, Alex has focused in latter years on emerging markets and frontier development opportunities. Design and solutions based invention are among his personal interests, along with numerous sports, leading also to some charity fund-raising projects.

  • Andrew Tarbuck

    Vice Chairman, Risk Compliance and Corporate Governance Chair

    Partner, Hogan Lovells

    Andrew Tarbuck is a partner in the Dubai office of Hogan Lovells specializing in all aspects of capital markets transactions, particularly IPOs, other equity fund raisings, debt securities and Sukuk. Mr. Tarbuck is a member of the NASDAQ Dubai Practitioners’ Committee and a Board member of the Middle East Investor Relations Association (and Chair of its Regulatory Committee). He is ranked Band 1 in Chambers Global 2014 for Capital Markets: Equity (UAE and Middle East) and in The Legal 500 for Corporate and M&A. Mr. Tarbuck has advised on the region’s largest IPOs and equity fund raisings including representing The National Commercial Bank (NCB) on its US$6 billion IPO and listing on the Tadawul which is the second largest IPO globally to date in 2014 and the largest IPO ever in the Middle East. He also advised Mesaieed Petrochemical Holding Company (a Qatar Petroleum subsidiary) on its full retail IPO and listing on the Qatar Exchange in 2014, Qatar’s first IPO since 2010, and DAMAC Properties on its GDR Exchange offer and subsequent listing on the Dubai Financial Market. In addition to his equity expertise, Mr. Tarbuck has also advised on award-winning debt transactions and Sukuk, notably representing Ooredoo on the establishment of its US$2 billion airtime Sukuk program which was awarded “Qatar Deal of the Year” by Islamic Finance news 2013.

    Redwan is the head of Investor relations at DP World and is responsible for the strategic planning, development, coordination and execution of all investor relations activities with the aim of increasing shareholder and debt investor return and enhancing DP World’s image within the investment community.

    Previously, he was sell-side equity analyst for 13 years which includes eight years in London covering mostly large-cap UK media companies. More recently at EFG HERMES, the largest regional Investment Bank, he covered sectors such as media, shipping and transportation, logistics and infrastructure (including DP World).

    Redwan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance and Investment from Cass Business School, City University London.

  • Omar Darwazah

    Board Member

    Founder and General Partner, Arab Angel Fund

     

    Omar is a Founder and General Partner at the Arab Angel Fund, a $25 million early stage venture fund focused on Seed and Series A technology investments in North America, which helps entrepreneurs access the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets. Previously, he was Director of Investor Relations, Strategy and Business Development at OCI N.V. based in New York City for over 3 years and was Head of Investor Relations at Orascom Construction Industries based in Cairo, Egypt for over 6 years prior to the company’s relocation to the Euronext Amsterdam. Prior to launching his fund and joining the OCI-family, Omar was a Transfer Pricing Consultant for Deloitte Tax LLP based in Chicago and a Leveraged Finance Analyst for Deutsche Bank in London. Omar has over 11 years of international experience in corporate finance, corporate communications, management consulting, strategy, investor relations and venture capital.

    To-date, Omar has worked on over US$ 35 billion worth of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, divestitures, share buybacks and various corporate restructurings. During his time at OCI in Cairo, Omar won the “Best Investor Relations in Egypt” award for four consecutive years. The award is based on votes from global investors and sell-side analysts conducted through Extel Surveys by Thompson Reuters on behalf of the Middle East Investor Relations Association. In 2012, Omar and his team also won the “Best Investor Relations Team in the Middle East for Crisis Communications” award. 

    Omar also has extensive experience in private equity and venture capital, having founded his own startup, Premier Foods SAE, which manages two gourmet fast food brands in Egypt. Omar previously advised Hikma Pharmaceuticals’ corporate venture arm Hikma Ventures on its digital healthcare investments. Omar is also an angel investor in various startups including Andela, FiscalNote and Quarrio Corp and sits on the Board of various companies and associations including Gold Cleats Inc. and the Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA).

    Omar holds a BA in Economics and Political Science with Honors from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Peter Gotke

    Peter Gotke was a Vice President at BNY Mellon until mid-2016, representing their Depositary Receipt interests in the Middle East. Peter was based in the London office, supporting BNY Mellon Issuers, with responsibility for new Depositary Receipt programs in the EMEA region, and acting as a spokesperson in the media and at conferences for depositary receipts and investor relations. Peter holds a BA in Business Studies and Marketing from London Metropolitan University and prior to joining the Bank, Peter was employed by the Corporate division of Thomson Reuters. At Thomson Peter held roles that included Sales Director of EMEA, and Managing Director of their Investor Relations practice in Asia Pacific. Peter brings to the Middle East over 15 years of investor relations experience from his time in these and other emerging markets.

  • Dr. Ryan Lemand

    Board Member

    ADS Securities Assets Managements

    Dr Ryan Lemand is currently Managing Director - Head of Asset Management and Wealth Management at ADS Securities Asset Management, based in Abu Dhabi, where the focus is on bespoke and customized mandates for high net worth and institutional investors. Until 2015, Ryan was the Senior Advisor to the CEO and Head of Risk Management at the Emirates Securities & Commodities Authority, the UAE’s federal securities regulator.

    In this capacity, Ryan led and contributed to initiatives which led to the development of a number of fundamental regulations including the collective investment scheme regulations, as well as regulations of financial analysis and consultancy services, market making and others.

    His was principally responsible for leading the Funds and Investment Management team that handles the licensing and approvals for local and foreign mutual funds and investment managers. Additionally, he helped develop a risk management framework for UAE licensed brokers.

    Prior to that, Ryan was the Lead Portfolio Manager at Fortis Investments in London and Paris, where he was responsible for managing a 15 billion euro portfolio of assets, namely in the space of credit derivatives.

    Dr. Lemand holds a Ph D (summa cum laude) in Financial Econometrics from the École Normale Supérieure, France, and is the author of two books on financial contagion, as well as a number of research articles on financial correlation. DrLemand also taught financial econometrics courses at the Paris II-Assas University and Paris IX-Dauphine University in Paris, France. He is a sought-after speaker and contributor to major financial markets discussions and events in the UAEand in the wider MENA region.

  • Mahmoud Salem

    Managing Director, MEA Depositary Receipts, BNY Mellon

    Mahmoud Salem is a Managing Director in BNY Mellon’s Investment Services sector and the Regional Manager for the Middle East and Africa.   As head of transactions for the region for more than 15 years, Mahmoud has helped numerous governments and foreign issuers structure and execute IPOs, secondary offerings, mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions involving depositary receipts. 
     
    Mahmoud structured the first depositary receipts program for the following countries: Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Tunisia and UAE.  He has helped structure some of the largest cross-border acquisitions in the Middle East region and has worked on a number of key NYSE and NASDAQ listings and offerings for foreign issuers from Europe and South Africa. 

    Mahmoud also held the role of Head of Global Marketing for the Depositary Receipts Division from 2011 to mid-2014.  
     
    Mahmoud is a board member of the Arab Bankers Association of North America (ABANA).  He speaks regularly at capital markets and securities industry conferences and forums.  He received a BA and an MBA from Rutgers University and joined BNY Mellon in 1993.

    Mrs. Fida Musleh/Azar expertise spans over 18 years in the fields of corporate communications, investor relations, public relations and management.

    Currently, she is Manager of Investor Relations and Corporate Communication at Arab Palestinian Investment Company (APIC) in Palestine, where she is responsible for building positive relations with shareholders, positioning and communicating APIC's story and investment proposition to investors locally & worldwide, developing strategies and implementing investor relations initiatives as well as reinforcing a favorable corporate identity in the financial markets and with the business media.

    Before joining APIC, she worked at the Palestine Exchange (PEX) for eight years where she was Manager of Public Relations & Investor Education Department as well as Manager of the PEX Representative Office in Ramallah. Her mandate included managing the PEX’s corporate communication locally and worldwide and planning and executing regional and international road shows to promote investment in Palestinian listed stocks.

    Mrs. Azar has been very active in fostering best practices in investor relations among listed companies. She was Chairwoman for two years of the Palestine Chapter of Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA)- UAE, which she inaugurated in 2012. She also received the "Outstanding Individual Contribution to Investor Relations Award" from MEIRA-UAE in 2012.

    Michael A. Miller is Head of Investor Relations at National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), leading a team focused on building a world-class investor relations function at the bank.     Fanny Modin was responsible for Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at SHUAA Capital, a listed Dubai based financial services company until 2016. Having joined SHUAA in 2013, she was overseeing the company's Investor Relations program, managing all communication with shareholders and the investor community.

    Prior to this, Fanny worked full time for the Middle East Investor Relations Association where she was responsible for Communications and Business Development. She was heavily involved in setting up country chapters across the region and responsible for the Association's communications strategy during this time.

    Fanny began her career working as a financial journalist for Thomson Reuters in her native Sweden before moving to Dubai in 2010. She holds a BA in European Studies from the Royal Holloway University in London.

  • Paul Reynolds

    Paul Reynolds has over 20 years' experience as an adviser in the banking, debt and equity capital markets in Europe, India and the Middle East, having worked at Barings and Cazenove before joining Rothschild in 2005. He is a founder committee member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) Middle East, an Honorary Fellow of the ACT and was Chairman of the Middle East Investor Relations Association until November 2014. In December 2015, Paul was nominated Chairman Emeritus of MEIRA.

    Paul advises governments, large and small companies and bond trustees on capital structure, fund raising, refinancing and restructuring across the debt and equity product and credit spectrum. Paul has been principal adviser on 93 such deals in respect of over €201 billion of financing since January 2003, having also separately provided non-transactional advice to 53 clients on capital structure, debt capacity, ratings issues and funding strategy over that period.

    Toby Wilkinson joined the ME-IR Association Board as an Executive Member in September 2013 when he was also made Head of the Education Committee, having been heavily involved in the re-launch of the CIRO course in partnership with the UK IR Society. Toby has worked in-house for a range of GCC companies such as Ooredoo, Aldar and Mubadala over the past six years, setting up and training IR departments in line with international best practice. Prior to that he worked in the City of London for over 20 years, and so brings a wealth of experience to the Association from various sectors and markets.
